With growing recognition that autism presents in diverse ways and that outcomes vary significantly between individuals, the Relations Group supported the launch of Spectrum 10K through a national broadcast awareness campaign designed to inform, educate and encourage participation. Working with leading researchers from the Autism Research Centre at the University of Cambridge, the Wellcome Sanger Institute and UCLA, we helped communicate the scale and ambition of the project, which aims to recruit 10,000 autistic individuals and their families across the UK to better understand how biological and environmental factors influence wellbeing. The campaign highlighted the inclusive nature of the study—open to all ages, genders, ethnicities and support needs—and reinforced its commitment to neurodiversity, alongside its opposition to eugenics and any focus on “curing” autism. Through clear public messaging and media engagement, we helped explain how participants contribute via an online questionnaire, DNA saliva sample and health records, ultimately supporting research into more personalised and effective forms of support for autistic people. The campaign also signposted audiences to www.spectrum10k.org to drive recruitment and awareness.
