Two weeks on from the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, the Relations Group supported the DEC in delivering a broadcast-led campaign to help audiences understand the scale of the crisis and how public donations are being used on the ground. Through powerful interview-led storytelling with DEC Director of Programmes Madara Hetiarachi, we highlighted the human impact of the disaster, with over 46,000 lives lost and millions of survivors urgently needing food, shelter and medical care in freezing winter conditions. The campaign helped explain the realities facing aid workers and affected communities, from damaged infrastructure and blocked access routes to families and responders who have lost homes and loved ones while continuing to deliver life-saving support. By showcasing how DEC member charities and local partners rapidly mobilised pre-positioned resources—distributing essentials such as blankets, tents, food, water, and hygiene kits—we reinforced the speed, coordination and impact of the humanitarian response. The campaign strengthened public understanding of the DEC’s role in both immediate relief and long-term recovery, reinforcing trust and transparency while demonstrating how UK donations are making a tangible difference in one of the world’s most urgent crises.
